An easy read, Terry has a practical yet inspiring style to her writing. While it is geared towards salespeople, I feel like anyone who wants to learn to communicate more effectively and efficiently can benefit from this book. There are certainly other books about creating personal branding messages, and the elevator speech - and this one is no better or worse really. There are some great points about how to make your elevator speech more effective, although this book was more focused on sales than I expected. Probably because they are the ones that are usually pitching. It's a quick read to pick up a couple of pitching nuggets. Terri, thanks for an advanced copy of Small Message, Big Impact!
Good quick read, but many of the principles in the book are found in most books on public speaking. Having a few targeted "Elevator Speeches" is a great idea for those people looking to make new contacts, get introductions, selling a product, etc. I'd recommend reading it.

However, it's a template and doesn't really discuss individual challenges folks might have such as fear or understanding what it means to sell, etc. I would recommend this as a first book to read and then to find another something by Sam Horn perhaps.

It's perhaps useful for the fresh graduates who may not have heard about the term - elevator pitch. Most of the exercises prescribed in the book were pretty elementary and nothing new at all. Way too much unnecessary stuff, and long-winded examples in general. If you are on budgeted time, read the last three chapters only and you'll get the main points. Glad I listened to this one, so that I could do other stuff simultaneously.

In general, it provides good tips for attracting people to listen to you, and to present yourself in a good way to develop relationships with potential clients or targeted people. A 3-minutes prepared speech can get moving forward toward your goal. I began skeptical that I would like this book. I detest the idea of an elevator speech. I found myself liking Sjodin's approach, which makes the concept more than what most people consider an ES to be. That appealed to me.
I think her ideas are useful to job seekers and sales people.

As a seasoned copywriter and persuasive sales writer, it was mostly review for me. However, there were a couple of nuggets that made the investment of my time worthwhile.
